Project 1882’s impactful “For the Animals” tour has been making its way through Europe since May 2024. With stops in 21 cities, 7,900 visitors, and partnerships with 16 organizations, the initiative has brought animal rights to the forefront and called for a full review of EU animal welfare legislation.
Launched in May 2024, the “For the Animals” tour exposed significant shortcomings in European animal welfare legislation. These included sows confined in crates, calves isolated from birth, and the long transport of live animals across borders and seas. Project 1882 worked closely with 16 animal rights and animal welfare organizations, drawing attention from 7,900 visitors and earning 70 mentions in international media outlets.
– The European tour has strengthened the bonds between Project 1882 and organizations across Europe. We share a common goal: A world where animals are treated with dignity. Together, we are building a unified European front to improve the lives of the billions of animals suffering in factory farms, says Coral Ricote Lajusticia, Director of Campaigns for Project 1882.
For nearly two decades, Project 1882 has captivated audiences with its annual summer tour across Sweden. The decision to take the campaign to Europe came at a critical time, with pivotal discussions on animal welfare occurring within the EU and across member states. These upcoming decisions have the potential to impact billions of animals on Europe’s factory farms. The tour aimed to raise awareness of the harsh realities animals face and to inspire and empower those who can drive meaningful change. 30,000 people signed the petition during the tour, demanding that the promised update to the EU’s animal welfare legislation be implemented.
– This tour was a crucial step in raising awareness about the suffering endured by animals in Europe’s factory farms. We are committed to further expanding our international advocacy efforts to bring about real change for these animals, says Coral Ricote Lajusticia.
This tour would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of everyone who has demonstrated their strong commitment to animal rights. Project 1882 will continue to work toward a world where all animals are treated with compassion, both in Europe and globally, and extends its sincere thanks to all those who have contributed and been a part of this important journey.
It's time to improve European animal welfare.
