By conducting regular opinion polls, Project 1882 measures the state and shifts in public opinion regarding various animal issues. Influencing public opinion and shaping people’s values on matters concerning animals constitutes a significant aspect of Project 1882's activities.
With only a few months left until the 2022 parliamentary election in Sweden, Project 1882 asked questions about how important animal policy is to voters. The survey was conducted by the opinion polling company Novus on behalf of Project 1882 during April 2022. The results showed that more than six out of ten (63 %) believe that plant-based food should get as much tax-funded subsidies as animal-based products. More than eight out of ten (83 %) think that it should be prohibited to keep hens in cages without any possibility of free movement.
The survey showed that 76 % of Swedes are against keeping minks in cages for fur production, and a majority, 52 %, are worried about spread of disease from large-scale animal agriculture, such as mink farms.
An overwhelming majority of Swedes think that a lot of practices in the Swedish chicken industry has to improve or cease, for example the harmful rapid rearing of chickens, leading to chickens growing faster than what their bodies can keep up with.
Almost 9 out of 10 Swedes think that cages for hens should be banned. The survey was conducted by the opinion polling company Novus on behalf of Project 1882 in May 2019.
Almost 9 out of 10 Swedes think that companies should set and keep a higher animal welfare standard than the legislated minimum level.
More than 8 out of 10 believe that water to swim in should be a requirement for having minks in captivity. Among women and youth, closer to 90 % agree.
